What are the symptoms of burnout?
Burnout is when people experience emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, or feelings of reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout is often associated with high-stress jobs, but it can happen to anyone who works long hours without rest.
Symptoms of burnout may include feeling tired, irritable, anxious, depressed, angry, frustrated, guilty, or hopeless. You might feel like you’re not accomplishing anything. You might feel disconnected from others and have trouble making decisions. You might find yourself thinking about work, even at home. You might lose interest in things you once enjoyed doing.
According to a Deloitte survey, burnout affects millennial retention: 84 percent of millennials say they have experienced burnout at their current job, compared to 77 percent of all respondents. Nearly half of millennials say they have left a job specifically because they felt burned out, compared to 42 percent of all respondents.
